Fujitsu wins $7.3 million tender with WA Lotteries Commission

Fujitsu Australia has beaten ASG and another unnamed supplier to a $7.3 million tender with the Lotteries Commission of Western Australia (Lotterywest) to deliver an SAP-based Enterprise Resource Planning solution.

The ERP implementation, which is based on SAP Business All-in-One, will make up a core component of Lotterywest's business transformation project which will see Lotterywest totally replace its gaming and business systems.

Fujitsu won the project after an intensive 12 month evaluation process.

Fujitsu's general manager western region, Tom Hayes, said the tender process was extremely tough, but added that the intensively detailed evaluation aided Fujitsu in devising a better understanding of Lotterywest’s needs.

“The tender process was intensive because the Lotteries commission did a full process mapping and knew exactly what they did and didn’t need,” said Hayes. “It meant that we couldn’t just throw a cookie cutter solution at them but had to actually fashion something new to their needs."

The project will be broken into two phases; Phase 1 will encompass customer relationship management, financial management and procurement, human capital management; while Phase 2 will incorporate grants management, document management, occupational, health and safety and business analytics.

Fujitsu will advocate a best practice delivery approach to the project that will allow it to implement the first round of functionality by the end of this financial year, with phase two due for completion by the end of 2008.

Lotterywest CEO Jan Stewart attributed the win to Fujitsu's success in ERP business solutions, the quality of its technology and its willingness to work closely with Lotterywest to understand its complex requirements.

The win is Fujitsu’s first major SAP implementation on the West Coast, Hager said, who hopes to use it to launch other SAP implementations in the region.

"While Fujitsu has extensive experience with SAP deployments elsewhere, Lotterywest is our first SAP project in Western Australia. This win highlights our ability not only to outperform our competitors in the ERP space, but also to overcome geography and time zones to deliver value for our clients," he said.

Although Fujitsu provided no specifics about the number of staff it plans to tackle the refresh, half of the project team would be pulled from the East Coast while the remaining half would be made up of new hires.
