Fujitsu in storage play

Fujitsu Australia is taking a stab at securing some market share in the crowded storage market with its range of Eternus3000 SAN storage systems.

Competing squarely against the likes of EMC and Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), Fujitsu has released five models, starting at around $15,000 for the entry-level model 80, said Lars Kohn, program manager, enterprise systems at Fujitsu.

The company would tap some of its existing Primergy server reseller channel to sell the Eternus systems. It was also in the process of signing a distributor for the products, Kohn said.

Michael Yell, national channels manager for Fujitsu’s platform and systems group, admitted that while the company was late to market and would be competing against more established storage players, it can “look at what everyone else has done and maybe improve on it”.

The range starts with the model 80 storage system which ships with 1GB of cache and has a maximum capacity of 2.2TB. This model would compete with the HDS 9520 system, said Kohn.

The top of the range Model 700 floor standing system has maximum cache of 16GB and a maximum storage capacity of 72TB.
